Is the leaching oil safe?

In recent years, the safety of leaching oil has attracted wide attention. Some consumers have doubts about the extraction of oil, and think that the use of chemical solvents may lead to harmful residues, thus posing a threat to human health. So, is the leaching oil safe? Today we will analyze this problem scientifically.

What is oil extraction?
Leaching method is a common extraction process of edible oil. Its principle is to use organic solvents (such as hexane) to separate oil from oil. Compared with the traditional pressing method, leaching method has higher oil yield and can make full use of oil resources, which is a widely used oil production method in modern industry.
Will the solvent remain in the leaching process?
This is the most concerned issue for consumers. In fact, the state has strict standards for the production and testing of edible oil. In the leaching process, the solvent used will be completely removed in the subsequent high-temperature evaporation process, and the residual solvent in the final product must meet the national food safety standards. According to China’s national standard “GB 2760-2014 National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Food Additives”, the solvent residue in edible oil must be below a certain limit, and the qualified products produced by regular manufacturers can completely meet this requirement.
Difference between leaching oil and pressing oil
The pressing method directly extrudes oil by mechanical force, while the leaching method extracts oil by chemical solvent. Compared with squeezing method, leaching method has higher oil yield and saves resources. Pressed oil usually retains more natural flavor, while extracted oil is refined and tastes lighter. It should be noted that both pressed oil and leached oil are safe as long as they meet the national standards.

How to choose safe edible oil?

  1. Choose a regular brand: buy branded products with quality certification and production license.
  2. Check the label information: pay attention to whether the product is marked as “meeting the national food safety standards”.
  3. Pay attention to the production date and shelf life: make sure to buy fresh cooking oil.

As an important achievement of modern oil-making technology, the safety of extracted oil has been scientifically verified. As long as it is a product produced by a regular manufacturer and meets the national standards, it can be safely eaten. Consumers don’t have to worry too much about the so-called “chemical residue” problem, but should pay more attention to how to use edible oil scientifically and reasonably with a healthy diet.
