OilSeed Treatment | OilSeeds Treatment Equipment
Oilseed pretreatment usually refers to the separation of impurities in oilseeds before pressing, so that oilseeds are in the best state, aiming at improving the physical properties of oilseeds for better subsequent extraction and processing. The main purpose of pretreatment is to remove impurities, adjust water content and break grain cell structure, so as to promote oil extraction. Common pretreatment methods include cleaning, impurity removal, drying, crushing and other steps. Through effective pretreatment, the efficiency of oilseed processing and oil yield can be improved, while energy consumption and extraction cost can be reduced.
Oilseed Pretreatment Process
The basic processing procedures of oil pretreatment: cleaning, conditioning, crushing, softening, flaking, steaming and prepressing. The oilseed pretreatment section is the most important part of the oil mill, and the oilseed pretreatment equipment has different configurations and processes according to different raw materials, output and final oil requirements. However, most oilseeds will go through the processes of selection/cleaning, dehulling and separating, crushing and flaking, and roasting.According to different oils, our oilseed pretreatment workshop has different configurations and technological processes. For example, rice bran pretreatment needs extrusion section, palm fruit pretreatment needs fermentation section, cottonseed pretreatment needs depilation process, peanut pretreatment needs dehulling equipment and so on. The quality of pretreatment directly affects the service life, safety and oil yield of the machine.
Oil Mill Machinery Used In Oilseed Pretreatment Process
A series of seed processing equipment are necessary in the process of oilseed pretreatment, such as the cleaning sieve, crusher, dehuller, flaking machine, cooker, screw extruder, dryer, etc.
Seed Selection and Cleaning
Before extraction, oilseeds need to be cleaned to remove plant stems, dirt and sand, stones and metals, leaves and foreign bodies. Careless selection of oilseeds will accelerate the wear of accessories and even lead to machine damage. Foreign matter is usually separated by vibrating screen, but some oilseeds (such as peanuts) may contain stones similar in size to the seeds. Therefore, they cannot be separated by screening. Seeds need to be separated from stones by a stone remover. The magnetic device can remove metal pollutants from oilseeds, and the sheller can be used to shell oilseeds such as cottonseed and peanuts, and can also be used to press oilseeds suchas soybeans.
Shelling and Separating Machine
In the process of extracting oil from shelled raw materials such as peanuts, sunflower seeds, cottonseed and tea seeds, the shell and kernel must be separated before pressing. This separation is very important, because the existence of the shell will significantly reduce the total oil output by absorbing or retaining the oil in the pressed oil cake. In addition, the wax and colored compounds found in the shell will pollute the extracted oil, making it unsuitable for edible oil. Therefore, the shelling process (also called shelling or peeling) is necessary to ensure the quality of the extracted oil. In addition, shelling can also improve the oil production efficiency, increase the capacity of extraction equipment, reduce the wear of oil press, and increase the protein content of coarse powder by reducing fiber.
Crusher and Flaker
The oil yield will be higher after crushing and flaking. Most oilseeds are crushed before oil pressing to facilitate shelling, heating, drying and flaking. However, for some seeds, such as rapeseed and Cohen germ, the crushing process is not needed because they are small enough. Crushers are used to reduce the size of oilseeds.Oilseeds can also be flaked before solvent extraction. Flaking will destroy the cell structure of seeds and increase the surface area, thus increasing the contact between solvent and seeds during solvent extraction. Typical sheet thickness ranges from 0.01 to 0.015 inch or 0.25 to 0.37 mm.. Oil should be extracted from crushed or flaked seeds as soon as possible (within 24 hours) to minimize the deterioration of coarse powder and oil quality.
Roasting Machine
The key factor of high oil yield is roasting or steaming, so there is a saying that “70% lies in roasting and 30% lies in pressing”. It is very important to control the water content and temperature of raw materials before pressing to obtain the best effect. It is strongly recommended that users master roasting technology to maximize economic benefits. Roasting or steaming also plays an important role in providing seeds with the elasticity needed for effective pressing. Although sunflower seeds do not need to be steamed at high temperature, cracked and shelled soybeans need to be adjusted by raising the temperature to 149 degrees Fahrenheit and adjusting the humidity with fresh steam. This adjustment process is carried out in a drum with an internal steam coil, which can significantly improve the flaking performance and extraction efficiency.
